Tommy Canning.

Youngest of five sons, Tommy Canning was born on Christmas Day 1969 in the Lanarkshire town of Bellshill. Noted for his love for drawing through his school years, first at St. Patrick’s School in New Stevenston, then later at Holy Cross in Hamilton, he developed his talents with notable achievements, beginning with the books: “The Will to Win” (Mainstream, 1988) which was co-authored with his eldest brother Patrick Canning and “Ha’way the Lads” (Mainstream, 1989) – a collaboration between the two brothers and Newcastle United historian Paul Joannou. Sandwiched between these two books, Tommy along with Patrick, painted the now famous portrait of Jock Stein which hangs in the lounge (of the same name) at Celtic Park. Since the early 1990’s Tommy has broadened his range of work and become internationally recognised with his illustrative work for the SFA and FIFA as well as his unique style of religious art.
